Chris Laurence Quartet

Chris Laurence has maintained a dual career in both jazz and classical music. He plays regularly with John Surman, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor and Norma Winstone. In the classical world he was principal double bass with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Jazz artists he's recorded with include J.J. Johnson, Tony Coe, Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan and Johnny Mathis. 'New View' was Chris's debut album with his quartet. "Laurence is clearly a democratic leader, but what he brings to New View, in addition to an astute choice of band mates and material, is an homage to Burton's guitar-based groups that transcends mere mimicry. It's a fine debut and one that will hopefully be the start of a somewhat late-in-life solo career" - John Kelman, allaboutjazz.com
